Acupuncture can help to balance your body in order to prepare for conception. Whether you are trying to conceive naturally or with the help of western medical treatment, acupuncture can help you to conceive.

For those trying to conceive naturally Chinese Medicine can:

  • treat underlying conditions such as premenstrual syndrome, irregular cycles, endometriosis, fibroids and and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
  • help improve circulation to the reproductive organs and improve egg quality
  • regulate your menstrual cycle and ovulation
  • support a pregnancy and decrease the chance of miscarriage

For those going through assisted fertility treatment (IUI’s or IVF), Chinese Medicine can:

  • regulate hormones
  • improve ovarian function and egg quality
  • increase blood flow to the uterus to build a thick and heavy lining
  • decrease stress
  • strengthen the immune system
  • decrease the  chance of miscarriage
  • increase the success rate of implantation

Benefits for men include:

  • enhancement of sperm quantity
  • improvement of sperm motility and morphology
  • decrease in stress

It is preferable to start treatment 3 months before your try to conceive or  begin your IUI/IVF procedure. Studies have shown that it takes an ovarian follicle approximately 90 days to fully develop. Balancing the body with acupuncture, herbs, lifestyle changes and diet can help to ensure a strong and healthy pregnancy.  Chinese medicine can still be of great benefit to those who have already begun their journey of conception with IUI or IVF.  Studies have shown an increase in the success rate of implantation with as little as one acupuncture treatment before and after the transfer.

Study:
In 2002, a German study indicated that women who received acupuncture with western fertility treatments had a success rate of 43%, while the control group who received western fertility treatments without acupuncture, had a much lower success rate of 26%. (Fertility and Sterility,Vol. 77, No.4, April 2002.)
